Welcome to my Photo a Day on the Daily photo community. I did a project 365 on Facebook last year, but I'm looking for more CC from other photographers, and I enjoy seeing other's work and learning their techniques. I'm pretty passionate about photography and I love to share ideas and technical stuff! I've been a Canon user for over 30 years. At the moment I'm using a 5d Mark ii and a 50d, with L lenses, and I process on an iMac. I am also a major software junkie! Comments and Constructive Critiques always welcome!

DreamCatcherPhotography > 3/24/2013 ~ Pretty Girls

I saw these girls walking along the Congress Avenue Bridge in Austin last weekend. I don't usually photograph people, but I think I was drawn to them because the girl on the left could be my eldest daughter's twin, at least from behind! Same red hair and everything. Anyway, I liked the shot and their cute outfits. Ahhh to be young again!!!

Thank you all for the fantastic comments on yesterday's Hope shot!! Have a wonderful Sunday in SmugMug land!
DreamCatcherPhotography > 3/23/2013 ~ Hope

Driving through Western Colorado in a horrendous storm last summer, I was getting a bit bummed over the nasty weather. Suddenly the sky parted and the beautiful sun shone through, casting rays everywhere. As if it were saying, hang in there, there's still hope for tomorrow! After that storm, we had wonderful weather all week. Have a fantastic Saturday fellow SmugMuggers! I'm off to clean my garage!

Edited late to add: Thank you all so very much for the lovely comments on yesterday's Joy shot!
DreamCatcherPhotography > 3/22/2013 ~ Joy

This tiny bronze statue (about a foot tall) is at a local garden nursery. There is a small plaque that dedicates it to the memory of a young man who passed away much too soon. I love the feeling of absolute joy it conveys. We should all be kids as often as possible. Run through the sprinklers, roll in the grass, fly a kite or a model airplane. There's a lifetime to be old.

Thank you all for the super comments on yesterday's Perdido Key shot!! Have a fantastic Friday!
DreamCatcherPhotography > 3/21/2013 ~ Where the Classy Campers Camp!

Sherbet colored houses and elite RV's at a classy RV park on Perdidio Key, FL. just south of Pensacola. I made this shot from a moving vehicle as we crossed over the bridge to the Key.

Thank you all so very much for the wonderful comments on yesterday's shot of my Iroquois beaded pincushion. I am so pleased that everyone enjoyed it. It is such a treasure to me, one truly made by a master craftsperson. I will post more images from my collection in the coming days :)
DreamCatcherPhotography > 3/20/2013 ~ Iroquois Beadwork

This pincushion is piece of Iroquois Beadwork from my own collection, and one of my most prized possessions. It measures approximately 12 inches diagonally. I began collecting Iroquois Beadwork about 20 years ago as a link to my own heritage. This style of 'raised' beading, is unique to the Iroquois, Mohawk and Seneca tribes. This piece is from about 1900, and was made by a beadworker near Niagara Falls. The Iroquois began making and selling beadwork to tourists around Niagara Falls as a way to supplement their income. It began around the Falls/WNY area, but rapidly spread across NY State, Ontario and Quebec. In addition to pincushions, they also made small purses, match holders, boxes, needle cases, and other small items. These items are highly prized by collectors! More info can be found HERE along with a lot of photos of incredible beadwork.

I've always considered myself a landscape photographer, with the vast majority of my photos taken outdoors. I very rarely use a flash, so photographing objects indoors are a challenge to me. I photographed this pincushion on a table in front of a window. It's illuminated only with natural light from the window.

Thank so much for all the wonderful comments on yesterday's Palace Hotel photo! Their fantastic neon sign is quite a sight to see. I remember my response when I first saw it, and realized my eyes were not deceiving me!
DreamCatcherPhotography > 3/19/2013 ~ Welcome to the Palace Hotel and Bath House!

The Palace Hotel and Bath House.
Eureka Springs, Arkansas

At one time you could get more than a bath and a good night's sleep at the Palace. The rather...descriptive... sign.. was special ordered, and shipped from France. It has the distinction of being the first neon sign West of the Mississippi.

A history of the Palace: HERE

Thank you for the comments on yesterday's Boulevard of Broken Dreams 2 shot!
DreamCatcherPhotography > 3/18/2013 ~ Along the Boulevard of Broken Dreams 2

This is the front of the castle house I posted last Tuesday, which can be seen here. This sad house was abandoned after Hurricane Katrina, in 2005. It faces Beach Boulevard, and the Gulf of Mexico, near Biloxi, MS.

Thank you for the kind comments on yesterday's Jeep under the oak tree shot! They are much appreciated!!
DreamCatcherPhotography > 3/17/2013 ~ In Honor of St Patrick's Day

As 'green' as I could find.. My Jeep parked under a huge and very green oak tree at Bon Secour National Wildlife Refuge, Alabama.
I processed this with Topaz Labs Adjust in the Venice painting setting. Happy St Pat's Day!!!

Thank you for the nice comments on yesterday's Old Liquor Store Sign shot!! I appreciate your comments and input very much!
DreamCatcherPhotography > 3/16/2013 ~ Wine is Fine, but Liquor is Quicker

I found this neat old sign in Brenham, Texas a couple of days ago. It's funny how you can go someplace a hundred times, and never notice something that's always been there. I processed this with OnOne software 'Perfect Effects 4'. I have the trial version, but I'm definitely going to buy it. They have some pretty cool presets and borders.

Thanks so much for the wonderful comments on yesterday's Soda Jerk shot!!!
DreamCatcherPhotography > 3/15/2013 ~ Where's that Jerk when you need him???

Antique soda fountain at an ice cream parlour in Brenham, Texas

From Wikipedia: The name soda jerk came from the "jerking" action the server would use to swing back and forth the soda fountain handle when adding the soda water. The soda fountain spigot itself typically was a sturdy, shiny fixture on the end of a metal pipe or other similar structure sticking out of the counter by several feet and curving towards where the glasses would be filled. The unflavored carbonated water was used to make all of the drinks. Consequently the tap handle was typically large, as a busy shop would have the soda jerker using it frequently. This made the mixing of drinks a center of activity at the soda counter.

Thank you for the wonderful comments on yesterday's shot of the flying pelican!! You guys are an amazing, talented bunch, and I enjoy so much seeing everyone's work!
DreamCatcherPhotography > 3/14/2013 ~ Just Crusin' Along

This pelican was following the Dauphin Island Ferry, as we made the crossing across Mobile Bay. I think he was looking for a hand out! I love pelicans, I think they look so prehistoric. I see pterodactyls when I see pelicans. Best viewed in larger size, you can see a drop of water falling from his beak!

Thank you all for the lovely comments on yesterday's Angel Tree shot! I have some close ups of the carvings, that I'll post in the near future. The carving was amazing. Very intricate. It was a beautiful, meaningful way to make something out of a tragic event.
DreamCatcherPhotography > 3/13/2013 ~ Angel Tree

Best viewed in larger size, this was once an oak tree, but like thousands of others, it was killed by the tremendous storm surge of ocean salt water during Hurricane Katrina. Rather than cut them down, many trees were carved by artists into beautiful works of art. This tree is now three angels, with pelicans, and herons. This tree is in Bay St.Louis, Mississippi. I like to think that the tree did not die in vain.

Thank you all for the wonderful comments on yesterday's Boulevard of Broken Dreams photo. I have another shot of this house that I will post later this week. I hope that everyone will keep Biloxi, and all of the Mississippi coast in their hearts.
DreamCatcherPhotography > 3/12/2013 ~ Along the Boulevard of Broken Dreams

I've been on the road the last 3 days, on a very quick mini-trip to the Gulf Coast area of Florida, Alabama, and Mississippi. This shot I made yesterday, of a truly amazing "Castle" house, in Gulfport, Mississippi. This once fine house now sits abandoned, still facing the Gulf of Mexico, and Beach Boulevard. The beautiful Biloxi area was devastated by Hurricane Katrina, in 2005. Much of the horrendous damage escaped news coverage, because the focus was on New Orleans, which flooded when it's levee system failed. Biloxi has come a long way in their recovery efforts, but things will never be the same. Many of the beautiful mansions that lined Beach Boulevard, are completely destroyed. Nothing remains but empty lots, a few still have slabs intact, and some with front steps leading to nowhere. Having seen Biloxi before the hurricane, and seeing it now, is a truly heartbreaking experience.

There is a lot of barrel distortion in this image, something I usually try to avoid when photographing architecture. I even corrected it a bit in PS, but this is the best I could get. Using super wide shot was the only way to show the house, and it's amazing view. Maybe one of these days I'll get a tilt-shift!

Thank you for all the comments on my water crossing shot yesterday!!
DreamCatcherPhotography > 3/11/2013~ Water Crossing

I have Summer Vacation on the brain! I've been looking at last year's shots, so I can plan what places I need to revisit, and which ones I don't. This is coming down from Imogene Pass, near Ouray, Colorado. We crossed a small stream, so I got out and made my hubs go back across so I could get a shot! (He looks thrilled) That's my youngest in the backseat. She's 17 now, and too busy with boyfriend and work to hang with her old folks, so this summer will be a solo, just us two adventure.

Thank you for the lovely comments on my backwards Tetons shot!
DreamCatcherPhotography > 3/10/2013 ~ So THAT'S what the other side looks like!!

Every time I'd been to the Grand Tetons I always wondered what the heck the other side looked like! I know it's a weird thing to obsess about, but it sure bugged me. Finally I couldn't take it any longer, and the last visit we had to go check it out. As you can see it's all farm land. Some poor soul is forced to live in that huge house with that amazing view. I feel horrible for them!

Thank you very much for the kind comments on yesterday's Forgotten Curios shot!
