DailyPhotos > DreamCatcherPhotography  > Other > A Photo a Day (or at least I'll try!)
Welcome to my Photo a Day on the Daily photo community. I did a project 365 on Facebook last year, but I'm looking for more CC from other photographers, and I enjoy seeing other's work and learning their techniques. I'm pretty passionate about photography and I love to share ideas and technical stuff! I've been a Canon user for over 30 years. At the moment I'm using a 5d Mark ii and a 50d, with L lenses, and I process on an iMac. I am also a major software junkie! Comments and Constructive Critiques always welcome!

DreamCatcherPhotography > 2/8/2013 ~ J.C. Trube Castle
Galveston, Texas

One of the most unusual homes in Galveston, the Trube Castle was built in 1890 by a Danish immigrant. The Castle survived the Great Storm of 1900 with relatively minor damage. Today it is a private residence.

Thank you all SO very much for the wonderful comments on yesterday's photo of my dear Maggie! It is so very hard to let our dear furbabies go.
DreamCatcherPhotography > 3/7/2013 ~ Ode to an Old Friend

Thinking of the best dog ever, our dear Maggie, who we had to put to sleep two years ago today. I made this photo the day before, knowing it would be my last chance before her appointment the next day. She had a bath, and then laid in the sun on the deck while I took her picture. She was a wonderful girl, a true friend and family member. A rescue from the side of the road, she was some sort of golden retriever mix. As sweet as she could be, but untrusting of strange men. She was fiercely protective, to the point that she became a legend amongst meter-readers and cable repairmen. She lived to be about 14 years old, before heart failure set in. It took months before I stopped looking for her when I would come home each day. An 8x10 of this image hangs above my desk.

Thank you very much for all the nice comments on yesterday's Yellowstone Bus shot!
DreamCatcherPhotography > 3/6/2013 ~ Yellowstone Yellow Touring Bus
I love these wonderful yellow 'buses' that carry tourists around Yellowstone! They're almost as awesome as the cool red 'jammers' they have at Glacier. They hold about a dozen people, and the tops fold back. I wish I'd gone for a ride in one, but I'm too much of a cheapskate. Maybe next time.

Thank you for the nice comments on yesterday's shot from the old farmhouse. This is my friends grandparent's old house, and I have a ton more shots of this place to post. Grandma E was quite a devout Republican, and a big Reagan fan!
DreamCatcherPhotography > 3/5/2013 ~ No Clocks Tick Here

A corner of the kitchen at an abandoned farmhouse in East Texas. Time stopped ticking in January, 1988. The wall is just as they left it, save for a few cobwebs and insect nests.

Thank you for the kind comments on yesterday's Engineer Pass shot. The San Juan Mountain area is beautiful, and I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys stunning mountain scenery!
DreamCatcherPhotography > 3/4/2013 ~ A Room with a View

This is Engineer Pass, near Ouray, Colorado. At 12, 805' elevation, it's not the highest pass in Colorado, but certainly one of the most breath taking. Accessible by 4 wheel drive only, it's part of a series of mountain trails that form the famous "Alpine Loop", a popular area with 4 wheelers, hikers and naturalists. Last summer we planned to spend a night up here, but the weather and timing issues prevented us from doing so. Hopefully this summer will be different. I can't imagine a better bedroom window view. In case anyone wonders, the stick in the lower left is a trail marker, that marks the trails in areas where deep snow accumulates. If the snow does not melt quickly enough, crews in Caterpillars will clear the trails.

Thank you all for the wonderful comments on yesterday's Golden Grass shot!
DreamCatcherPhotography > 3/3/2013 ~ Golden Grass

Yesterday was such a pretty day, my husband and I went for a drive up to the National Forest. I got a few OK shots, and this one of golden weeds blowing along the lake shore was my favorite.

Thank you all very much for the lovely comments on yesterday's Bridal Veil Falls shot!!
DreamCatcherPhotography > 3/2/2013 ~ Bridal Veil Falls

Since I posted a manmade water fall yesterday, I thought I'd post a real one today. This is Bridal Veil Falls, in Telluride, Colorado. It is the highest waterfall in Colorado, at 365 feet. The base can be reached via hiking/off-roading trails, but the summit is on private property.

Thank you for the wonderful comments on yesterday's B&W Waterfall shot!! Have a fantastic Saturday!
DreamCatcherPhotography > 3/1/2013 ~ As The Water Flows

This is a manmade waterfall at a subdivision nearby. Around here it's very common for new subdivisions to have retention ponds to handle the frequent flooding that our often heavy downpours bring. I have to laugh at how the developer will dress them up a bit with fountains and waterfalls, and then sell the lots at a premium price by calling them "Lake Front" lots. Until someone dumps some fish in them, I call them "Mosquito Breeders". But they do make a nice backdrop for bridals, senior pics, etc. Shot on tripod with a 6 stop ND filter.

Thank you for such lovely comments on yesterday's columbine photo! I was sick yesterday so I really didn't get to look at or comment on anyone's shots, but I'm feeling better today. Happy Friday and first of March! My how February flew by!!
DreamCatcherPhotography > 2/28/2013 ~ The Noble Columbine

Summer is fleeting in the high elevations of Colorado. By late June most of the snow is gone, and the wonderful alpine wild flowers Colorado is famous for, emerge for the short summer months of July and August. Mountain valleys (called basins) fill with an artists palette of color. One of the most abundant and beautiful, is the columbine, the state flower. This columbine was photographed in Yankee Boy Basin, near Ouray.

Thank you all for the nice comments on my We are Stardust! We are Golden! shot yesterday. I'm glad you all enjoyed it! I thought it was a pretty neat find too.

From a couple of years ago, I was in Houston in an industrial area when I heard a train approaching. I took a few shots of the train as it passed by, but didn't really know I'd got anything interesting until I got home and saw this box car. I like the colors and the words from "Woodstock".

Thank you all for the lovely comments on yesterday's Campsite shot!!
DreamCatcherPhotography > 2/26/2013 ~ The Most Wonderful Place to Be!!!

I will take my little camper in the mountains over a fancy hotel any day. There's nothing like sleeping under the stars and sitting around the campfire until it's time to crawl under the covers. Then waking to the sun's first rays and the chirping of birds.

Thank you all for the lovely comments on yesterday's Sweet Sparrow shot! Have a great Tuesday!
DreamCatcherPhotography > 2/25/2013~ Sweet Little Sparrow

I spent a little while on Saturday morning, sitting on my deck watching the birds at the feeders. This little guy landed on a vine nearby, and posed nicely for me. I keep three feeders full year-round. I enjoy watching the birds, and even the squirrels, who try so hard to get into the feeders.

Thank you all for the lovely comments on my Jazz Club Painting shot yesterday. There were such beautiful shots on the Dailies yesterday, it was an honor to be amongst them.
DreamCatcherPhotography > 2/24/2013~ In Celebration of Black History Month

When this theme was announced I immediately knew what photo I would use. This is a painting on an exterior wall of a jazz club, in the French Quarter of New Orleans, LA. I loved this painting the minute I saw it! The colors are so bright and vibrant, and the characters so expressive. But most of all, I loved it for what it represents. To me this painting represents people... human beings... coming together, and uniting for the love of music. And wether it's a love of music, or food or art or photography, there is a common thread within us all, that unites us. We all share this tiny little blue- green planet. On the inside, where it counts, we are all the same.

Thank you all so very much for the wonderful comments on yesterday's Horseshoe Bend shot!!
DreamCatcherPhotography > 2/23/2013~ Horseshoe Bend

I wasn't sure what I was going to post today, until I saw fotoeffects shot of Horseshoe Bend! It is quite a view, and quite a drop! About 1000' straight down! The bend is a 270º turn in the Colorado River, about 5 miles South of Page, AZ. There is a small parking lot right off the highway, then it's a 1 mile hike through loose sand and over rocks to get to the Bend. The best time to photograph it is mid afternoon, when the light reaches the canyon depths. By evening it's very shadowed, but the sunsets can be incredible. We were there for the sunset, but it wasn't a spectacular one. I got pretty close to the edge, because I'm crazy and I've never had a fear of heights. But as it got closer to sunset it became more and more crowded, so I had to back away from the edge. Heights don't scare me but people do! Most of my sunset shots ended up with some foreground because of that. I'd love to go back again, but next time I'll be sure to take a Valium or two first!!!

This is a three frame HDR.

Thank you all so very, very much for the wonderful response to my Crystal Mill shot yesterday! I'm blown away by the amazing talent on the Dailies and I'm honored that you've been so kind to me.
DreamCatcherPhotography > 2/22/2013~ The Crystal Mill
Crystal, Colorado

This shot is from my 3rd visit to the Mill, last July. Although a cloudy day, this is my favorite exposure so far. And the only visit where I stood in the icy water to get it!

I will never forget the first time I saw an image of the Crystal Mill. It must have been about 10 years ago, and I was at a craft festival. Of course I love to check out the other photog's work! So I was looking at this guy's matted photos and I come across one of the Crystal Mill. I ohh'd and awww'd over what a cool looking building it was and he told me 'You ought to go see it! It's JUST off the highway'. Well! It's anything but 'just off the highway'. It's only accessible by a 5 mile long, very rutted, 4 wheel drive trail. Fortunately we have a Jeep, and the trail was relatively mild as Jeep trails go, but still..... I guess he had himself a good laugh telling people that knowing full well many would go out there in their Volkswagens and have one heck of a surprise!

From Wikipedia: The Crystal Mill, or the Old Mill is an 1892 wooden powerhouse located on an outcrop above the Crystal River in Crystal, Colorado, United States. Although called a mill, it is more correctly denoted as a compressor station, which used a water turbine to drive an air compressor. The compressed air was then used to power other machinery or tools. Today it stands as a Colorado icon.

This old photo shows the Mill in operation: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/5/55/Crystal-mill_1890s.jpg

Thank you for all the great comments on yesterday's Service Station shot! I just loved that place, so I'm sure I'll get back that way again. Maybe even get some star shots.
